Sami’s Philly Steak – How we make Philly Cheesesteak

How to make a Homemade Philly Cheese steak \r

Philly Cheese steak Recipe\r
\r
Chop up 1 large onion into thin long pieces.\r
\r
Chop up frozen rib eye or flank steak into thin steak shapes\r
\r
OPTIONAL: Chop up sliced mushrooms into small pieces and 1/4 green peppers into long pieces) \r
\r
Place a pan over medium heat.\r
\r
Add 1 tbs of veg or olive oil\r
\r
Add steak and onions (mushrooms and green peppers if you want)\r
\r
Sprinkle 2 tsps of Worcestershire sauce onto meat and onions.\r
\r
Sprinkle a generous amount of Salt, Pepper, and Garlic powder onto steak and onions\r
\r
Fry until done\r
\r
Once done add 3 pieces of American Cheese or Provolone cheese to top meat and veggies\r
\r
Scoop into a soft long hoagie roll

This week I’m at 12th St Cantina, where I’m having some tasty beef tacos.

Inside the Reading Terminal Market, 12th St Cantina serves tortas, burritos, enchiladas, ensaladas, homemade salsas, fresh tortillas, and a full line of Mexican groceries – no-nonsense Mexican food made well.

I stuck with the basics, steak soft tacos with lettuce, guacamole, sour cream, and pico de gallo (OK, I might have had some hot sauce too).

All told it was awesome – especially since the tacos only cost around $4 each.

But don’t just take my word for it…

This week I’m at Philadelphia Mills, having a juicy Pepper Jack Steak wrap combo from Great Wraps Grill.

This place is proof positive that good cheesesteak doesn’t always need a roll.
I know that’s considered heresy in Philly (“If it’s not on an Amoroso’s or a Liscio’s roll, it’s not a Philly cheesesteak) – but this is a gently spicy take on the classic.

Great Wraps is a national chain that started making fresh wraps back in 1989.
As for their philosophy, I’ll let them do the talking:

where I had the Chop House Classic

First, a generously sized Ceasar salad with large croutons.

Then the main course – a 10 ounce top sirloin steak
with steamed broccoli, mashed potatoes, and a breadstick.

1 sirloin steak that is partially frozen\r
1 green bell pepper sliced\r
1 onion sliced\r
salt and pepper\r
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce\r
Emerils steak rub or any steak seasoning you like\r
Cheese\r
Rolls\r
\r
Some people use ribeye but I cannot afford ribeye.\r
So, we are using sirloin.\r
\r
While partially frozen slice the steak across the\r
grain in very thin slices.\r
Place meat in bowl and add 1 tsp of steak seasoning,\r
Worcestershire sauce and salt/black pepper. Mix well\r
and set to the side.\r
\r
In large skillet on medium heat add 2 tbsp oil, \r
onions and peppers. Cook for 3-5 minutes. Push to \r
one side and add your meat. Cook for 3-5 minutes \r
until the meat is almost done. Start stirring \r
the vegetables and meat together. Cook for an \r
additional 2-3 minutes and remove from the heat.\r
\r
Place steak/onions/peppers in rolls and top with \r
cheese. \r
\r
Place in preheated 400 degree oven for 5 minutes\r
or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.\r
\r
Let rest for a couple minutes before cutting or\r
eating.\r
\r
Enjoy.\r
