A young Philadelphia pizza delivery man just doing his job was shot in the head by plain-clothes police officers late on April 22. He was unarmed and had not broken the law.

Two police officers in the Kingsessing area attached to a gun crime unit responded to shots heard nearby around 10 p.m. Meanwhile, 20-year-old Philippe Holland had just delivered a burger and soft drink, his last delivery run of the night.

The non-uniformed men arrived at 51st St & Willows Ave and saw Holland dressed in a hooded sweatshirt. They say they identified themselves as police.

Police Commissioner Richard Ross says the department suspects Holland probably didn’t believe them and thought he was about to be robbed.

Ross believes this is why Holland made the decision to get into his Ford Taurus.

There are no third-party witnesses, but the officers say Holland reversed then drove toward them at speed. They both opened fire on his car, striking him in the leg, arm and head.

Holland’s car was riddled with 14 bullets. He is now is in hospital in a critical but stable condition. It is uncertain whether he will live.

The police involved have been taken off the street pending an internal investigation.

A gunman opened fire on a Philly street early Wednesday morning leaving a pregnant mom and her unborn child dead and her boyfriend in critical condition.

She was the second pregnant woman to be shot and killed in Philadelphia recently.

As the investigation into the shooting continues, both police sources and the woman’s mother believe the boyfriend was targeted because of an earlier fatal shooting and robbery he may have been involved in.

Authorities said they found 25-year-old Jasmine Williams and 26-year-old Kord Rosier beside a running Chevy Impala near the intersection of Nedro Avenue and North 20th Street in the West Oak Lane section of the city around 1:30 a.m.

Outpouring for Baby Who Died After Pregnant Mom Shot
Williams — who was eight months pregnant — was shot in the head, arm and legs, while Rosier was hit in the back and one leg around 12:45 a.m., according to police.

The two were rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center where Williams was pronounced dead at 1:03 a.m. Doctors performed an emergency delivery of her child, but the baby girl did not survive. The infant was pronounced dead at 2:18 a.m, according to officials.

“They just took an innocent life,” said Williams’ mother Monique Williams-Morris while in tears. “She had nothing to do with whatever was going on.”

Rosier, who is the father of William’s unborn child as well as her six-year-old son, remains in critical condition at Albert Einstein and is expected to survive. He also spoke to detectives about the shooting, according to reports.

A $40,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.

Williams is the second pregnant woman to be killed in Philadelphia in September.

Six Officers Shot in Philadelphia Standoff

LIVE | From the South: We are joined live from Venezuela by Dr. Blessed Ngwenya, a professor at University of South Africa to talk about demands by CARICOM countries for reparations from European countries for their role in colonial slavery. And at least 6 police officers have been shot in the US city of Philadelphia. More on these and other stories now.

PHILADELPHIA — A Philadelphia police officer survived an ambush by a gunman who claimed he carried out the attack “in the name of Islam” according a statement by the city’s police commissioner.

Philadelphia police commissioner Richard Ross told reporters that the shooter, identified as Edward Archer, approached a Philadelphia Police patrol car driven by officer Jesse Hartnett at about 11:30 p.m. on Friday night and fired 11 bullets through the driver’s side of the car.

CBS Philly reports that Officer Hartnett yelled over police radio, “Shots fired! I’m shot! I’m bleeding heavily!”

Footage from a surveillance camera captured Archer approaching Hartnett’s patrol car while firing a pistol. In total, Archer fired 11 shots at Hartnett’s patrol car, the last of which from inside the car’s window. He then fled.

Hartnett was hit three times in his left arm. In spite of his severe injury, Hartnett exited his patrol car and pursued Archer on foot. Other officers responding to the shooting arrested Archer. CBS Philly reports he later gave a full confession and stated that he had acted “in the name of Islam.”

Police commissioner Ross said told reporters there is no indication Archer planned the ambush on any outside orders. The 9mm pistol used by Archer had been stolen from the home of another police officer’s house in 2013.
