Take a tour of Modica Church of San Giorgio in Modica, Italy – part of the World’s Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.

The town of Modica in Sicily is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its medieval atmosphere and tenacity of rebuilding after its many natural disasters.

The upper part of Modica is home to the magnificent baroque Church of San Giorgio.

This golden 18th century church stands tall over the town, and visitors need to ascend 250 steps to reach it.

The church was built by a prominent Italian architect, and was partially built with the remains of the previous structure which was destroyed by an earthquake in 1693.

The interior was designed around a rebuilt, vaulted basilica and displays religious paintings.

Visiting the church gives one a glimpse of the town’s roots and a fantastic view of modern Modica.

About a dozen years ago, a Philadelphia church thought athletics could be a form of outreach to young people. They had no idea how successful their effort would be. James Brown reports.

More than 100 firefighters were on the scene for a three-alarm blaze at a church in north Philadelphia on Thursday, March 29, near Temple University.

Nearby off-campus housing for the school was evacuated as the Original Apostolic Faith Church of the Lord Jesus Christ burned, according to local news.

The Philadelphia Fire Department tweeted that the fire was under control shortly after 4pm. Frederick Tookes, the church’s pastor, told media that the last service at the church was held on Tuesday and no one should have been inside. Credit: thebroomstick via Storyful
