Due to some unforeseen flight changes in our schedule, we didn’t have much time to explore the Konso Village, but we did have enough time to experience this amazing cultural heritage site, to taste some local food. Visiting the village was a humbling experience, an area of Ethiopia that has been through famine, and to sit down and sample some food from a local family in the village, food they had grown and prepared, was truly special. It is important to remember how fortunate we are to have food on the table.

Konso Village – We began the day in Addis Ababa, where we flew to Arba Minch in southern Ethiopia. After having a quick lunch, some delicious Ethiopian food fish, we drove the bumpy road to Konso. Konso culture and villages are a UNESCO world heritage site, for their preservation of culture and traditions, and it was incredibly special to visit. We toured the village, and I was amazed how advanced their systems were, and their construction.

It was evening and in one of the homes we met a lady who was cooking the family meal for dinner. She was cooking sorghum, moringa leaves, and cassava. It’s not the most flavorful food you’ll taste, but cooked with love, ingredients grown right there, it was a huge honor to share some of their food. It’s a remember of how privileged and fortunate we are to have such abundance.

Thanks to Dessie from Go Addis Tours () for arranging everything on this trip.

Thanks again to my friend Bramuel for connecting us and taking us to a Maasai people village deep in the heart of Kajiado. We set off from Nairobi and it was about a 2 hour drive to get there. On the way, we stopped for a few samosas, which were incredibly delicious, and then continues onto a dirt road to get deep into Maasailand.

Maasai – The Maasai are a people group in Southern Kenya and Northern Tanzania. They are known for being nomadic herders, and follow the pasture as they are tend to livestock – mostly cows and goats.

One of the honors of Maasai culture is a whole goat roast, and it was a privilege to have the opportunity to see the entire process from start to finish. We arrived to the village and they got straight to work, slaughtering the goat traditional style, and sectioning it off. About 10 minutes after the goat was slaughtered the leader reached into the carcass and sliced out the raw kidney, and immediately handed me a slice, with a smile.

It was an honor to have this opportunity, to eat, and fellowship with this Maasai community in rural Kenya. It was a learning experience, and truly one of the top memories I’ve ever had.

Thank you for watching this Maasai food special video!

Matchmaking services have been around since ancient times. Whether it was orchestrated through family, friends, a yentl or, in modern times, by a business, the idea of arranged dates has evolved along with technology, customs and lifestyles. Speed-dating has its supporters and its detractors, for obvious reasons, but it has become a mainstay of contemporary urban dating rituals. The reason — it provides a face-to-face opportunity for busy singles to meet others looking for romance in a controlled, time-limited manner, allowing daters to meet many more prospects than they would through old-fashioned or virtual means. Speed-dating events abound in Philadelphia, as they do in other major metropolitan areas. Before signing up for a speed-dating event, check online reviews of the sponsors of events being considered. Ask friends, associates and acquaintances who have experienced the process for advice. Then get out there and go for it. Philadelphia, PA 19106 267 273-1003 Dates: July 25 and Aug. The one-night events each feature 10 to 15 five-minute speed dates. For more than 10 years, the HurryDate company has hosted speed-dating events for thousands of singles. As with most speed-dating events, daters are supplied with a score card, on which they can request to see certain individuals twice. Event officials will match interested parties, and then the choice of making arrangements for an actual date are left up to the individuals involved. In July and August, events are being held at Bleu Martini in Old City. Following each speed-dating event, there is an after-date party held. Dress is business casual, with no hats or gym shoes permitted. All guests are provided with a number tag and a match card for the dating portion of the event. Each date lasts between three and eight minutes, and a 15-minute break is held to allow visits to use the restroom or to make drink runs. Results are emailed to customers within 48 hours of the event. Each event is designed to be as stress free and relaxing as possible. It provides a safe environment operated by experienced staff. Guests receive a pen, a match card and a card to participate in an ice-breaker game. A mixer is also part of the agenda. Dates last five to seven minutes.
