[] If I’m remembering correctly, FireWire is just Apple’s trademark for the standard. Sony used a different name for the same thing.
And Apple co-developed the copper implementation of Thunderbolt with Intel, back when it was still called Light Peak. Thunderbolt was just Apple’s trademark for the tech, which they later transferred back to Intel. And instead of using a new connector, they used the same one as Mini DisplayPort, so it was backwards compatible with an existing standard. Thunderbolt 3 actually uses USB-C as the connector.
Their lines might not be as separate going forward if the MacBook is any indication. Thing looks like an iPhone morphed into a laptop. It even has a single port for charging and everything else.

So I work at a relatively touristy spot in Philadelphia, which is right across the Delaware River from the beautiful hellhole of Camden NJ. Now, most tourist spots in Philadelphia offer these free maps of Center City, which is basically our major downtown area. This lady who has about six remaining teeth comes in and is fucking poring over one of these maps for a solid ten to fifteen minutes, before she finally looks up at me.
“Is the Camden waterfront in Camden or Philadelphia?”
