Officials said on Friday, California farmers would pay more to irrigate their crops under a proposal to build tunnels under the San Joaquin-Sacramento River Delta to funnel water to the state’s agricultural breadbasket. The analysis released by state Treasurer Bill Lockyer said regional water suppliers and the farmers who purchase water from them would be able to handle the increased costs, even though the price of water could more than double once the price of paying for the project is included. The project, now expected to cost $19 billion, is backed by Democratic Governor Jerry Brown as well as Republicans who represent the agricultural region, which has suffered from the state’s ongoing drought.

Das Gesetz erlaubt jedoch die Einrichtung von abgetrennten Raucherräumen auch in Coffeeshops, in welchen Zigaretten und andere Tabakprodukte geraucht werden dürfen.[3][4] Ein grundlegendes Problem der Duldungspolitik bleibt ungelöst: Die achterdeurproblematiek, das Problem der Hintertür. Die Polizei könnte leicht jeden Coffeeshop ruinieren, wenn sie am Lieferanteneingang die Drogenkuriere abfangen würde, denn der Anbau und die Einfuhr von Drogen sind nach wie vor illegal und werden mit bis zu vier Jahren Haft geahndet. Eine Anfrage auf Neuregelung in Bezug auf die Lieferanten der Coffeeshops im Jahr 2000 wurde mit dem Hinweis, dies in Abstimmung mit den Nachbarländern machen zu wollen, noch nicht angegangen. Um dem Drogentourismus aus den niederländischen Nachbarländern beizukommen, gibt es immer wieder Diskussionen über verschiedene Maßnahmen.
