Take a tour of Buddha Park in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic – part of the World’s Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.

About 25 kilometers outside of Vientiane, Laos lies Buddha Park, a fantastically bizarre sculptural garden.

The park was designed in 1958 by a priest-shaman whose vision was to fuse the religions of Buddhism and Hinduism.

Over 200 Buddha sculptures, monuments of Hindu deities, and many other mythical creatures adorn this vast garden.

Visitors can symbolically ascend to heaven up a stairway through the mouth of a 10 foot demon sculpture; from the top of which the entire park is visible.

Although the park is full of religious statues, it is not classified as a temple but rather the incarnation of one man’s religious vision.

A visit to this quirky and surreal sculpture garden makes for a memorable day in Laos.

Take a tour of Tremiti Islands in Foggia, Italy – part of the World’s Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.

The clear blue waters of the Adriatic Sea are the setting for the Tremiti Islands, just off the coast of southeastern Italy.

The name of the island complex means “tremors” due to its history of seismic activity and fault location.

This archipelago consists of five islands, three of which are uninhabited due to either their low elevation or infertile composition.

The two inhabited islands feature a vast array of landscapes, including arid limestone, dense woods, and sandy beach.

Some of Italy’s political prisoners, from as far back as the Roman Empire to the years of Mussolini’s reign, have been confined here.

In 1989, the Tremiti Islands’ importance and beauty were confirmed when it was named a natural marine reserve.

Take a tour of Corinth Canal in Greece – part of the World’s Greatest Attractions series by GeoBeats. The canal is about four miles long and has walls that are merely 80 feet wide. The distinctive Corinth Canal is the realization of over 2,000 years of vision. The Gulf of Corinth had long been separated from the Saronic Gulf by the Isthmus of Corinth. Before the construction of the canal, ships had to sail around the Peninsula. Many rulers, from Periander to Julius Caesar to Nero, proposed a canal, but never built it. Finally, in 1893 a Greek company completed the Corinth Canal, allowing the boat traffic through.

The stunning landmark was built in the early 1600s. With its cascading domes and the namesake blue interior tiles, it is a truly unique structure. The religious and historical significance of the mosque make it one of Turkey’s greatest treasures. The Blue Mosque has awe-inspiring courtyards and several entrances. Inside, the high vaulted ceilings are adorned with a bright mosaic of tiles. Besides a place of beauty, the Blue Mosque remains a place of worship.
