This lovely modern country style home is situated in the picturesque town of Philadelphia.

Rural Philadelphia is just off the N7 towards Malmesbury. You can also take a more scenic drive along the Koeberg / Adderley Road from Durbanville through farmland until you reach the gorgeous village.

Philadelphia began, as many little towns in South Africa do, as a farm. Local farmers travelled all the way, by horse and cart, to Durbanville for Nagmaal or the Eucharist. A local farmer donated a portion of his land to the local brethren to build a church and possibly this is how Philadelphia, meaning love of brothers, got its name.

Like most smaller rural towns, the local NG church of Philadelphia is centrally situated and can be seen from a way off. A series of little streets with a couple of shops and the Pepper Tree Art Stable and Coffee Shop (a combination of art gallery, restaurant, coffee shop, pottery studio and gift shop) is the natural hub for both locals and visitors to the town. The Pepper Tree Art Stable is housed in the old stables and serves wonderful lunches, breakfasts and teas. The place really hums over weekends.

There are some pretty period homes, interspersed with a number of low-key Cape cottages, and the more recent Die Malle Meul, is a modern rendition of the Pepper Tree art space, also with its own pottery, and provides a popular wedding venue.

This stunning elegant, modern freestanding house with its 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, is built for complete relaxation and exceptional comfort, and is situated within close proximity to all amenities.

The innovative use of glass, light and natural rock combine to create a unique living experience. The unique use of angled beams (???) on the roof is a key feature. This home is wonderfully designed over two levels: this property offers superlative sleeping accommodation with versatile double volume reception areas perfectly suited to grand scale entertaining. The lovely unique staircase in the middle of the house is the centre of attraction and hallmark of this stunning property.

The accommodation on the lower level has the following: one study which can act as guest bedroom with bathroom. This area is fitted with three doors opening onto a patio, also with sliding doors opening onto patio overlooking the pool. There is also a full bathroom and separate visitor’s toilet downstairs on the lower level.

In addition to the spacious living area (with a built-in fireplace) it consists of a lounge, open-plan fully-fitted kitchen and dining-room which doubles up as bar-type eating space. The lounge-cum-living area with sliding doors fitted with unique shade-controllable …
