Description:\r
School means different things to different people and no two academic experiences are totally alike. Even so, most students can share a common notion of what constitutes a relatively ‘normal academic experience. Theres the too-early morning bell, the cramped, uncomfortable desks, the omnipresent chalk board, the all-too-short lunch period and, of course, the endless piles of homework crammed into an over-stuffed, heavy knapsack. Generally, there is something of a universality to the shape, structure and style of schools. These elements are so intrinsically tied to the experience of going to school that they remained burned into your consciousness, even many years after graduation. \r
\r
But its important to recognize that the educational experiences that may be familiar to you arent shared everywhere. Sometimes out of a situational necessity and sometimes simply in order to offer something new, going to school can mean something entirely different to particular student. Indeed, you can find all kinds of varied scholastic institutions both beyond American borders and, in some cases, inside of them. Places of education, after all, dont carry any required, mandatory qualities outside of teachers passing along knowledge and information to pupils within four walls. And, as we will see over the course of this list, the teaching doesnt even need to take place within four walls. Just as they say that home is where the heart is, it can also be said that school is where the learning is.\r
\r
Despite some of the standardized elements to learning institutions with which weve become familiar, some schools recognize that you cant reach all students in the same way. Students thrive within a variety of different environments with messages that are transmitted through various means. Some are visual learners, some are oral. Some prefer a classroom settings, while others do their best work amidst a less traditional environment. Some learn best from a textbook, some through current digital tools. And some seem to do their best learning from a boat, but well get to that in a minute.\r
\r
The point is that there are some weird classroom settings out there – and that doesnt have to be a bad thing. Learning can thrive in any setting, with some unique surroundings often providing inspiration. The Sinarmas World Academy in Indonesia, for example, offers students a learning environment that includes a scenic campus featuring a stunning courtyard, a domed pathway, a cutting edge media library and a state-of-the-art performing arts center. Other educational locales set themselves apart through their course material, perhaps most notably a school in Spain that teaches lessons in the worlds oldest profession.\r
\r
The following list may not include any classes in prostitution, but it does feature plenty of school settings that dont look a thing like your alma mater. Education takes on a decidedly different look when it takes place in fresh, invigorating surroundings, or when it covers lessons that extend beyond basic reading, writing and arithmetic. Here are 10 of the most unique schools in the world.\r

Philadelphia police are looking for the man who used a sledgehammer on a vehicle and one of its passengers during a possible road rage incident on May 22.

A SUV can be seen pulling into parking lot with a red pickup truck following it in a surveillance video released by police on May 23. The driver of the pickup truck blocks the other vehicle from leaving the lot and exits the truck with a sledgehammer and smashes the driver’s side window.

The SUV attempts to leave the lot, and the passenger in the vehicle falls out. The SUV stops a short distance away, and the passenger gets up in an attempt to get back into the vehicle. The driver of the pickup truck then strikes the passenger with the sledgehammer before breaking the rear window of the SUV.

Both the victim and the offender in the incident are unknown to police. Credit: Philadelphia Police Department

Having spent over a week in Dublin, Ireland it was time for me to escape the hustle and bustle of the city to visit more of rural Ireland. With this in mind, I headed over to Killarney by myself by train. While visiting the city I was impressed by the passion locals have for Gaelic football (green and gold was everywhere) and I spent the majority of my time exploring Killarney National Park en route to Ross Castle. Although I didnt have a lot of time to spend here I did have a very favorable first impression and would gladly return again in the future if given the opportunity.\r

First Impressions of Killarney, Ireland Travel Video Transcript:\r
\r
Good morning everyone. Its bright and early here in Dublin and Im about to board a train bound for Killarney – a city Ive never visited before.\r
\r
Audrey is off on a friends and family road trip so unfortunately youll have to be putting up with me the whole time.\r
\r
Anyways, lets get going.\r
\r
Its nice, only one transfer today. The journey has been really pleasant so far. Its been really scenic and I should be in Killarney in about an hour.\r
\r
After arriving at Cill Arine station minus my sweater, I dropped off my bags at the hotel and set off on foot to explore the downtown core.\r
\r
I quickly found myself impressed by how passionate the city is about its Gaelic Football with Green and Gold displayed everywhere. With no shortage of restaurants and pubs at my disposal it wasnt long before I sat down for lunch.\r
\r
For lunch Im going with Fish and Chips and a pint of Guinness. It never gets old.\r
\r
Well, that really hit the spot. Now it is time to go out and check out the town.\r
\r
Well, well, it didnt take me long to escape the bustle of the downtown city core. And so far my first impressions of this place have been really positive. Its a nice change of pace from Dublin where you know it is a really big city and it is really hectic. So over here it is much much smaller and literally it took me 2 minutes to walk out into the woods here and now Im down a path. Just what I want.\r
\r
It appears Ive made it to the entrance of Killarney National Park. But before I go there, there is a cathedral right in front of me that looks absolutely amazing, so Im going to go check that out first. And then onward to the park.\r
\r
An interesting f is that Saint Marys Cathedral served as a shelter and hospital for the sick and dying during the great famine before it was even fully completed in 1855.\r
\r
It appears I have options galore in terms of where to go. \r
\r
Well, Ross Castle it is. And after that gigantic lunch Ive got a lot of calories to burn off.\r
\r
Something you really appreciate in Ireland is when you have a gorgeous day like this. When it is sunny outside, when there is hardly a cloud in the sky. Because it does rain a lot here and so any excuse to put away your umbrella and get outside and go for a walk is definitely worth taking advantage of.\r
\r
You know how sometimes in life you hit a fork in the road. Well, apparently sometimes you also hit a flood in the road. So this road is flooded here. Im probably less than five hundred meters away from the castle. I cant see it right now but here is the dilemma. How do I get there?\r
\r
That appears about as far as I can go unless of course I can magically find a pair of rain-boots or a canoe.\r
\r
Open to the public Ross Castle built in the 15th Century is situated on the edge of Killarneys lower lake. Visiting its grounds is the perfect ending to a walk in Killarney National Park. In terms of nearby attrions it was definitely my favorite.\r
\r
I often find when traveling you have these unexpected days. You have these days where you lose your sweater and you try to reach somewhere and it doesnt work the first time or the second time and maybe not even the third time. Luckily it did for me the third time. But anyway this is the kind of adventure that really make traveling interesting for me. I like that days are varied and that you never know what is going to happen.\r
\r
So Im going to finish off this adventure with a river-walk back to the hotel.\r
